Benefits to Faculty Mentors
College of Marin faculty will benefit from participating in the program largely by promoting the growth and diversity of the college faculty. By supporting the mission of the program and the college, COM hopes to have a faculty as rich and diverse as our students. Additional benefits of being a Faculty Diversity Mentor include:
- Participating in the shaping of the next generation of the college faculty
- New perspectives and insight into your own teaching
- Having opportunities for self-reflection
- Honing teaching and coaching skills
- Watching a new professional grow and develop
- Receiving compensation in the form of 1.5 units total for the 2023-2024 academic year.
Benefits to Interns
College of Marin’s Faculty Diversity Interns will receive many benefits from participating in the program. It can be difficult to get employment as a California Community College teaching faculty. This program will provide interns with the knowledge and experience to pursue employment. Additional benefits for Interns include:
- Gain hands-on experience in the classroom with a diverse student population
- Share knowledge and skills with an experienced faculty member
- Participate in department meetings and other campus-wide faculty training opportunities (as the schedule allows)
- Learn tips and tools related to the California Community College employment application process
- Walk away with an individualized California Community College Employment Portfolio
- Participate in a mock interview and receive feedback
- Interns are paid $15.50/hr for no more than 10 hours a week throughout the program
